| Abstract | The potential of various bioenergy technologies operating within an integrated system has been determined for 3 villages (Injambakkam in Tamil Nadu, India, and Salme and Tarevir in Nepal) using a systems modelling technique, MERDA (Model for Energy and Resource Development Analysis). Energy options included the establishment of community biogas plants, fuel plantations (Casuarina or Alnus nepalensis), windmills and water mills, and the introduction of efficient stoves. The integral production of bio-fertilizers and pesticides and growth of fodder crops with food crops are part of the schemes. Each energy production system is situation specific and the use of systems analysis aids the selection of the combination of technologies giving maximum benefit. |
