Abstract

The results are summarized from trial fuel plantations established in this area of already insufficient fuelwood supply, and projected increased demand. Growth was compared of 5 species of Eucalyptus (E. grandis, E. camaldulensis, E. citriodora, E. tereticornis and E. alba) and of the indigenous species Dalbergia sissoo, planted at Chitrepani (Hirauda) in 1980. At 3 yr old (in 1983) all the eucalypts had grown better than D. sissoo, although there was a large variation between them. The best height growth was in E. grandis (height 20. 1 ft) followed by E. camaldulensis (18.1) and E. citriodora (15.4), and the least in E. alba (7.6) and D. sissoo (6.4).
