Crossing its seven autumns, BISEP-ST program has started to cast its impact at the grass root level. A local newsletter from Janakpur nicely covered its achievements in Dhanusha district. As Dhanusha districts possesses only a small patch of National forest, BISEP-ST through the DFCC has launched Public land forestry program where landless families has been involved to grow tree along with cash crops. 48 hectares of public land has been covered under this program and 92 such public land forestry groups are managing the forests through which 543 women and 894 lower castes households are getting regular benefit. Likewise the private land forestry has covered 120 hectares and beneficiaries are 2,305 households including disadvantaged groups. Based on the farmers preferences, mainly Eucalyptus has been planted under these schemes and per pole current price of Eucalyptus is 1000-1,500 at farm. One can easily estimate the number of trees and associated income the poor household start to receive from next year as the eucalyptus pole requires only 6-8 years maturity. BISEP-ST has also involved in developing local level forestry professionals. Under this program 4 students representing poorest family has received scholarship and already completed I. Sc. forestry course from Institute of forestry. Likewise good governance, gender empowerment, NTFP cultivation and enterprise development, Biogas and improved cooking stove installation are some of the fields where BISEP-ST has impacted significantly.
