Nepal is on its way to developing a national agroforestry policy following a three-day consultation workshop, which was held from 26-28 March in Kathmandu. More than 150 people attended the meeting, which was jointly organized by The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), Nepal’s Ministry of Agricultural Development, and the Asia Network for Sustainable Agriculture and Bio-resources (ANSAB).
WWF, Nepal government and other agencies recently received a three-year grant from the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) to address the central Churia range’s problems related to degraded land—usually land that is poorly managed, or damaged by floods and landslides.
“The project will help address what has become a ‘tragedy of the commons’ situation in Nepal,” said Shubash Lohani, deputy director of the WWF-US Eastern Himalayas Program. “It, too, is a testament to the importance of this region to the ecological and economic well-being of Nepal.”
Conservation Science, a new journal in the nature conservation, calls for submissions of research paper/review/short communication/essay for a special issue on “Conservation Biology of the Himalaya”.
