Program Manager at WWF Nepal

WWF, the global conservation organization leading international efforts for a living planet, seeks applications from qualified candidates for a Program Manager to manage one of the largest landscape level programs of WWF.

Major responsibilities will be overall program management which includes planning and implementation, program development, monitoring and evaluation, communication and coordination and performance management of direct reports. The incumbent will also provide essential input for strategic planning, liaising with government and other key partners and fundraising.

Minimum qualifications required are a Masters Degree in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science or a related field. At least seven years experience in conservation program management will be required including a readiness to travel substantially to the field areas. We are looking for a person with strong skills in program and people management. Business acumen, influencing skills, adaptibility, ability to build working relationships and a strong sense of innovation are some of the other competencies required for this job.  Excellent communication skills in written and spoken Nepali and English is required, as is the ability to work under pressure. The incumbent should have a desire to work with field staff and local communities.

This is a Kathmandu based position with substantial travel to the project areas.

Terms of Reference
I. Major Responsibility: The Program Manager will be responsible for overall planning, implementation, administering, monitoring and reporting on landscape level programs and projects. He/she will also provide essential input for strategic planning, review, monitoring and evaluation of programs and projects. He/she will coordinate with Government and other key partners in program development and will assist the Country Representative and Conservation Program Director in fund raising.

II. Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Program Planning & Implementation

• Plan and support implementation of the annual program and budget for relevant landscape level program/projects supported by WWF Nepal.
• Help implement priority field level researches and ensure incorporation of  the findings in implementing projects.
• Ensure effective implementation of adaptive management and adherence of the projects to adaptive management cycle.

2. Program Development

• Development concepts to strengthen existing programs and expand programs and projects in close coordination with other program units.
• Provide strategic directions as the focal point for respective landscape level program activities.
• Responsible for developing a program concept focusing on sustainable utilization of Non Timber Forest Product to improve livelihoods of communities.

3. Coordination & Communication:

• Coordinates with other units for proposal preparation and implementation.
• Coordinates with partners including governmnet agencies for implementation & effective management and leveraging.
• Develops networks and linkages with partners and donors.

4. Policy & Advocacy:

• Advice on policy development issues relevant to the program and keep abreast of latest developments.

5. Financial Management

• Oversee financial status and carry out internal evaluations of projects.

6. Monitoring & Reporting

• Monitor progress of landscape level programmatic output and projects, and ensure compliance with and implementation of approved programs/projects.
• Support for preparation and finalization of annual and periodic technical and financial reports for donors.
• Provide technical and implementation assistance to the field offices as required.

7. Capacity Building

• Manage performance of all direct reports effectively, coach them and identify their capacity development needs.

8.  Other Duties

• Performs other duties as needed.

9. Supervisory Responsibility: Supervises Program Officers, project staff, consultants, interns and volunteers.
10. Working Relationships:

• Internal: Interacts frequently with field staff and WWF network staff to coordinate project work in the country
• External: Interacts frequently with conservation officials in the country, WWF-International, WWF's national organizations, other conservation organizations and government agencies, universities, etc

11. Minimum Work Requirements:

1. Knowledge: A Masters Degree in Natural Resources Management. Environmental Science, or a related field.
2. Experience: At least 7 years of experience in the country in conservation or natural resources management is required. It is essential that the individual is technically proficient and qualified in the field of conservation and natural resources management including a readiness to travel frequently to the project areas.
3. Skills and Abilities: Strong skills in program and people management is required. Business acumen, influencing skills, adaptibility, ability to build working relationships and a strong sense of innovation are some of the other competencies required for this job.  Excellent communication skills in written and spoken Nepali and English is required, as is the ability to work under pressure.
