The oldest zoo in Nepal, the Central Zoo was established in 1932 by late Prime Minister Juddha Sumsher JBR as his private collection of animals. The zoo is located at Jawalakhel, Lalitpur with an area of 6 hectares. After the political changes in 1951, the ownership of the zoo came under the Government of Nepal & was opened to the public in 1956. At the beginning, the zoo remained under the management of the various Departments of the Government.

(As of 5^th May, 2015 14:00 PM). The Nuwakot district badly affected from 25th April, 2015 devastating earthquake along with other 14 districts of Nepal. The massive and unrecoverable disaster was occurred over all the 61 VDCs and wards of Bidur municipality in the district by earthquake and succeeding after shock. Large number of people has died and injured, many houses have collapsed and damaged and cattle and pets have got death and injured.
